Etheridge Thumbs Nose at Lee County Business Leaders

Etheridge Meeting with AFLCIOThis photo was found on the  flickr.com AFLCIONC website.  The headline read "Constituents meet with Rep. Bob Etheridge April 17, 2009".  First of all, one has to wonder how many AFLCIO constituents Congressman Etheridge has in his Congressional District compared to the number of small business owners.  Lee County business leaders (Sanford Chamber of Commerce, the Lee County Economic Development Corporation, and the Lee County Board of Commissioners) submitted resolutions opposing big labor's Employee Free Choice Act (a/k/a card check) to Congressman Etheridge.  As usual, the concerns of his small business constituents have fallen on deaf ears.  Congressman Etheridge took the time to meet with North Carolina's AFL-CIO labor leaders during his April recess.  According to the AFLCIONC blog, "Rep. Etheridge listened to a variety of community voices and reaffirmed his support for the Act, although he has not signed on as a co-sponsor." Guess small business owners know where they stand with Congressman Etheridge.

Etheridge Meeting with AFLCIOPerhaps Congressman Etheridge should meet with Lee County business leaders and hear what they have to say about the impact of the EFCA legislation on their businesses and on the local economy.  While he is laughing it up with big labor, the voices of small business are going unheard.  You are not a pro-business Democrat, Congressman Etheridge.

Labor unions have contributed

Labor unions have contributed heavily to Etheridge.  According to campaign finance reports, he has received about $500,000 over his election cycles.  Opencongress.org rates him 1 out of 440 in voting with his party.  In other words, he votes 100% with Nancy Pelosi.  Just what we need in a Congressman, right?  It is time to retire this man.

Why would you expect him to

Why would you expect him to break ranks with Nancy Pelosi?  She makes committee assignments.  How else would he be appointed to the powerful Ways and Means committee?  The only way to change things in Washington is to change the balance of power.  Put Republicans back in majority to remove Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House.
