RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE ‘BABY OLIVIA’ EDUCATIONAL
PROGRAM IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Whereas, There were over a million abortions performed in the U.S. last year and over 600,000 were medicinal (pill) abortions and over 60,000 abortions were performed in Florida;

Whereas, It is necessary and desirable to educate young people in grades 6 through 12 of the development and sanctity of the development of the unborn;

Whereas, Public education serves as a foundational tool to ensure that students are well-informed about science, health and human development;

Whereas, Understanding prenatal human development is a key component of comprehensive health and biology education, enabling students to appreciate the complexity and sanctity of human life and development from conception through birth;

Whereas, The “BABY OLIVIA” educational video series provides scientifically informed visual content illustrating the biological stages of human development, including the formation of organs, growth milestones and developmental progress in utero;

Whereas, The “BABY OLIVIA” program is designed to align with state academic standards in health and life sciences, providing age-appropriate and medically accurate material for students in grades 6 through 12;

Whereas, Access to factual and visual resources regarding human biology fosters scientific literacy, critical thinking and respect for human life at all stages of development;

Whereas, Inclusion of such educational materials in school curricula can enhance understanding of anatomy, genetics, and prenatal care, supporting broader public health and science education goals; and

Whereas, The use of scientifically based educational media encourages students to engage thoughtfully with complex biological concepts while promoting responsible foundation for understanding health, science and human anatomy;

Resolved, That the Lee County Republican Executive Committee (LCREC) supports the inclusion of scientifically accurate educational programs, Specifically, the “BABY OLIVIA” video and related instructional materials, within public school health and life science curricula for grades 6 through 12;

Resolved, That the LCREC encourages the Florida House and Senate affirm the importance of promoting biological literacy and respect for human development in educational settings, and that they enact “BABY OLIVIA” legislation, subject to parental consent, to implement the use of video related educational material in the public schools grades 6 through 12;
Resolved, That the LCREC encourages the Lee County School Board also affirm the importance of promoting biological literacy and respect for human development in educational settings, and that they implement “BABY OLIVIA” curriculum, subject to parental consent, including the use of video related educational material in the public schools grades 6 through 12 notwithstanding action or inaction at the State level; and

Resolved, That copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Governor, the Florida House and Senate, The Florida Department of Education Commissioner Anastasios Kamoutsas, the Lee County School Board Members and Superintendent, the media, and posted on the LeeGOP.org website.
